Story:
Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is back to haunt your dreams and freeze your blood!
Lisa Zane (Bad Influence)is a child psychologist tormented by recurring nightmares. But not until she meets a new patient with the same horrific dreams does her quest for answers lead to a certain house on Elm Street-where an evil that defies the grave is about to be unleashed upon the world.
With Yaphet Kotto (TV's Homicide, Alien) and cameos by Roseanne, Tom Arnold, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp, this chapter in the world's most terrifying dream saga is a fantastic voyage.

Review:
I didn't much care for this one. The 3-D ending was horrible, the acting was terrible, but you have to give it credit, this movie finally killed off Freddy! Oh what am I saying, don't give it any credit!. See it once, and you might like this stand-up Krueger movie (I'm rolling my eyes.).

In the last portion of the movie, from the point at which the lead female puts on the special glasses, to the time at which she takes them off, was originally filmed entirely in 3-D. The effect was removed for video release.

On 12 September 1991 a day before the U.S. release of the movie, Los Angeles declared it Freddy Krueger Day.

This is the only "Nightmare" movie where Freddy does not use his blades to kill anyone.

Goofs
Revealing mistakes: When Freddy appears to Tracey as her father and he turns his glove into a buzz saw, the wires for the fake Freddy arm are visible.

Continuity: When Freddy is dropping the needles from above, we see Carlos reaching up with two arms, but in the close-up, he's bending down covering his ears.

Revealing mistakes: When young Freddy is getting ready to smash the gerbil, we see him sneak it off the table as he puts it down.

Alternate Versions
Released with 44 sec of censorship cuts in Sweden.

The newly-updated DVD version gives the viewer the choice to watch parts of the movie in 3-D or standard.

In the theatrical trailers, there is a scene that involves Freddy absorbing Carlo's soul after his head exploded; this was not in the movie.

Television versions often have alternate takes of profanity-laced scenes, such as the "Free me, you idiot, i'm your fucking memory!" scene. Also, in the original version, the map that Carlos is lost in is supposed to read "You're Fucked". Instead, the TV version has the map saying "You're Screwed".

There is a workprint version floating around which contains about 20 minutes of cut footage and dialogue.

The version that aired on UPN actually had all the violent scenes in full, (only the language was edited). However, the TV version also had a few scenes and extensions of scenes not included in the theatrical and home video releases. These include: Maggie having a talk with her mother after having a nightmare before leaving for the youth shelter, a little bit more footage in the beginning of the scene with Tracy and Maggie are in the van after John was killed, a few extra shots of the desolate "Springwood Fair"
